Florence Almquist, MHC-LP

She / Her / Hers

Florence Almquist holds a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from NYU and joins Suite 14 with experience working with adults, adolescents, and couples.

Her work with adolescents and parents draws from her experience at Newport Academy, a national residential treatment program specializing in eating disorders, depression, and complex trauma in teens. Florence is committed to engaging teens who are struggling during this difficult developmental time especially those who are depressed or anxious. Florence fosters age-appropriate autonomy and mental health, while helping parents navigate communication and conflict with their children.

Florence's areas of focus also include working with adults who struggle with over-intellectualizing their experiences, engaging in work that helps them connect more deeply with their emotions and bodies.  She draws from her training in the Gottman Method, EFT, and Imago therapy in her work with couples. She collaborates with coupes to strengthen communication, build healthier patterns, and develop resilience within their relationship.

Florence's therapeutic approach integrates Internal Family Systems, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Somatic work. She takes a strengths-based approach to psychotherapy, emphasizing each client's resilience and potential for growth. Florence believes therapy should be a safe space where clients feel truly seen and heard while gently challenging patterns that no longer serve them. Clients describe Florence as nonjudgmental, attuned, and warm.
